Hammered under heat for dense strength and a hand-crafted feel.

What it is

Forging shapes metal by heating it and applying force with hammers, presses or dies, instead of cutting material away. It is one of the oldest metalworking methods and is used for blades, tools and Damascus Steel. Forging can refine and align the metal's internal grain, which can improve toughness. Many forged pieces are later finished by CNC machining or by hand.

How it feels in your EDC

Forged pieces often feel robust and solid, and hand-forged work can show hammer marks, organic shapes and a crafted, one-of-a-kind character. Don't confuse forged metal with Forged Carbon, a Carbon Fiber material made by pressing chopped fibers and resin together; it borrows the name but is not forged like metal.

Care & aging

Forging itself needs no special care; how a forged piece ages depends on its material and finish. Forged Carbon Steel and Damascus can rust if left damp, so dry them promptly and protect them lightly as the maker recommends. Hammer textures may slowly soften and develop character with handling.
