I liked the toy before I understood the description.
The movement, the sound, the feeling of turning a small object over in my hands: that part made sense straight away. The words took longer. What did “anodized” mean? Why did the bearing matter? What was the difference between all these materials?
I'm Wes, one of the people behind FZEDC Studio. When I first became interested in fidget toys, I was a complete beginner. I looked up unfamiliar words, searched for explanations, and asked people who knew more than I did. Slowly, one question at a time, things started to click.
I suspect quite a few of you have started the same way.
A simpler place to start
That experience is why we started the FZEDC EDC Glossary.
We want it to be the place you can turn to when a product description leaves you with more questions than answers. A place to understand a material, recognise a finish, or find out what a small part actually does, without needing to know the language already.
Where a term has an established definition, we aim to explain it clearly and include useful sources. Where names or meanings differ between brands and communities, we want to make those differences clear, too.
The goal isn't to make you sound like an expert. It's to help you understand what interests you and enjoy it a little more.
Definitions are only part of the story
A definition can tell you what a material is. Someone who has carried it for years can tell you how it wears, what surprised them, and what they wish they had known at the beginning.
That is the knowledge we hope experienced collectors and enthusiasts will share here. You don't need to write a polished article. A clear explanation, a useful source, or a small detail from hands-on experience can help someone more than you realise.
And if you're new, your questions matter just as much. If an entry still leaves you confused, we'd like to know. It helps us see what needs a better explanation.
An early version, open to correction
The Glossary is still at the beginning. Some entries need more detail; others may need clearer wording.
We check our explanations and include sources, but we won't get everything right. If you spot an error or a missing detail, please help us correct it. We would much rather learn from a correction than leave a mistake in place.
We hope to build a useful reference over time, not claim to have every answer today.
Help us make the next entry better
If you've read this far, you're invited.
Explore the Glossary. If something is missing, submit a term. If something needs correcting, use “Suggest an edit” on that term's page. A source link is always welcome.
We also hope to offer small thank-yous for helpful contributions, with details shared as we work them out. Nothing grand, just a little appreciation for your time and care.
We all start somewhere. With your help, the next person can spend less time searching for answers and more time enjoying what brought them here.
Thank you for helping us build it.
