Wear-resistant ceramic used for precision balls and sliding parts.
What it is
Zirconia is zirconium oxide, written ZrO2. It is an engineering ceramic, not zirconium metal. Grades and stabilizing additives vary, so the generic name does not identify a specific composition.
How it feels in your EDC
Its strength, surface finish and wear resistance make it useful for sliding parts. In an EDC mechanism, ball diameter, track material and spring pressure also shape feedback.
Care & aging
Use replacement parts of the specified diameter and grade. Avoid impacts and keep precision contacts clean. Reference: Kyocera, Zirconia (ZrO2), Fine Ceramics.
