Fidget Slider

What it is

A fidget slider is a pocket-sized piece with plates or a body that slide back and forth in your hand. Magnets, ball detents or other mechanisms pull the parts into set positions, so each push ends in a snap, click or soft stop. Sliders come in many sizes, materials and layouts, from simple two-position designs to multi-stage builds.

How it plays

You hold a slider between thumb and fingers and push it from one end to the other. The fun is in the feedback: the pull of the magnets, the crispness of the stop and the sound it makes. Many people use one quietly at a desk or in a pocket to keep their hands busy while they think.

What to look for

Look at the feedback mechanism first, since it shapes the feel most. Then consider material, which sets weight and sound, along with size, travel distance and loudness for where you will use it. Check whether parts such as magnets, tracks or balls can be swapped to adjust the feel.
