An industry rating for ball bearing tolerances, in classes 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9.

What it is

The ABEC scale was created by the Annular Bearing Engineering Committee of the American Bearing Manufacturers Association. It grades how precisely a ball bearing is made in five classes: 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9. Higher numbers mean tighter tolerances.

In your EDC

Spinner makers often quote ABEC ratings. A higher class means a more precise bearing, but spin time also depends on the bearing's material, lubrication and shields, so ABEC alone does not tell the whole story.
