A large fixed-blade knife with a clip point, named after Jim Bowie.

What it is

The Bowie knife is a large fixed-blade knife, usually with a clip point and a crossguard. It is named after Jim Bowie, a 19th-century American frontiersman, who made the style famous after the Sandbar Fight of 1827.

In your EDC

Full-size Bowies are outdoor and collector knives rather than pocket carry, but their clip-point profile shaped many of the folders you see today.
