What it is
One-piece construction means the main body is made from a single solid piece of material, rather than separate parts joined with screws, welds or adhesives. It is usually created by CNC machining, EDM or forging from one block. Other parts, such as bearings, magnets or buttons, may still be added, so check what the maker means by one piece.
How it feels in your EDC
A one-piece body feels solid and seamless in hand, with no joints to shift, rattle or loosen over time. Clean, uninterrupted lines also give it a refined, sculptural look. Making a part from one block can take more machining time and material, which is one reason one-piece designs often cost more.
Care & aging
With no screws or seams in the main body, a one-piece design usually needs little maintenance beyond normal cleaning. How it ages depends on its material and finish. Because the body cannot be taken apart, keep grit out of any moving areas and follow the maker's advice for servicing added parts such as bearings.
