What it is
Stainless Steel is iron alloyed with chromium, which forms a thin, self-healing oxide layer that helps resist rust. Common EDC grades include 304 and 316, though the exact grade depends on the maker. It machines precisely, takes many finishes well and is one of the most widely used metals in everyday carry.
How it feels in your EDC
At roughly 7.9 g/cm³, Stainless Steel is denser than Titanium and Zirconium, so a piece of the same size feels noticeably heavier in hand. Many people like that solid, grounded presence in sliders, coins and buttons. Its hardness and finish shape the look and feel, while spin, sound and click still depend on the overall design.
Care & aging
Stainless Steel does not patina like Copper or Brass, but daily carry will add fine scratches over time. Brushed and stonewashed surfaces tend to hide them; mirror-polished surfaces show them more. Wipe it with a soft cloth and dry it after it gets wet. Despite the name, it is stain-resistant, not stain-proof, so avoid leaving it in salt water or harsh chemicals.
