Magnetic attraction or repulsion creates tactile resistance, indexing or return force.

What it is

Magnetic Interaction is feedback created by magnets attracting or repelling each other or nearby metal. As parts move, the changing magnetic force pulls them into position, pushes them apart or returns them to a resting point. It is one of the most common feedback mechanisms in sliders, coins and many other fidgets.

How it feels in your EDC

Magnets give a contactless kind of feedback: a pull you feel before parts meet, then a snap into place. Depending on magnet size, strength and placement, the feel can range from soft and smooth to strong and decisive. Because parts are held by magnetic force, movement often feels clean and quiet until they meet.

What to look for

Look at how strong the snap is and whether the brand describes magnet count, size or grade, which shapes the feel. Check whether magnets are fixed securely and whether parts are swappable to adjust strength. Keep strong magnets away from cards, phones, mechanical watches and medical implants such as pacemakers.
