What it is
Cerakote is a brand of ceramic-polymer coating, widely known from firearms and outdoor gear. It is sprayed onto a prepared metal surface as a thin liquid layer, then cured, usually with heat. It comes in a huge range of colors and can be layered or masked for camo, fades, splatter and other custom designs. Colors and application depend on the maker.
How it feels in your EDC
Cerakote usually has a matte to satin finish and a slightly dry, coated feel in hand. It is thicker than DLC or PVD, so it can soften very fine textures underneath. Its biggest strength is color and personality: it lets makers create bold or custom looks that metal finishes alone cannot achieve.
Care & aging
Cerakote resists everyday handling well, but with heavy carry, edges and high-contact spots can slowly wear through to the metal beneath. Many people enjoy that naturally worn look. Clean it with a soft cloth and mild soap, and avoid abrasive polishes and strong solvents. Deep chips usually need professional recoating rather than home repair.
