Extra mass added to change balance, momentum or feel.

What it is

A counterweight is dense material placed where the maker wants mass: in a spinner rim, a coin face or one end of a slider. Brass, copper and tungsten are common choices.

Why it matters

Where the weight sits matters as much as how much there is. Weight at the edge of a spinner adds momentum; uneven weight causes wobble and vibration.

Also known as: Weight, Rim Weight, Inlay Weight,
