The mechanism that releases a watch's stored power in steady ticks.

What it is

An escapement is the mechanism in a mechanical watch or clock that passes energy to the timekeeping element and releases the gear train in small, regular steps. The ticking sound comes from the escape wheel's teeth stopping against the pallets.

In your EDC

Most mechanical watches use a lever escapement working with a balance wheel. Its beat rate, such as 28,800 beats per hour, affects how smoothly the seconds hand sweeps.
