Synthetic ruby bearings that cut friction in a mechanical movement.

Jewels are tiny bearings, usually made of synthetic ruby or sapphire, placed at friction points in a mechanical movement. They reduce wear and help the movement keep good time.

A movement’s jewel count, such as 21 or 25 jewels, is often printed on the dial or caseback.
