Free-Floating

Short name

Written by: FZEDC

A slider whose plates are held together mainly by magnets, so they can move in more than one direction.

What it is

A free-floating slider (often shortened to FFS) has no fixed rail. Magnets hold the plates in register, and the plates can slide, pivot or lift off and snap back. Some designs add a pin or stop only to limit how far they travel.

Why it matters

Players like free-floating designs for the extra ways to play and the strong magnetic snap. Because the plates are not locked to a track, magnet strength and layout decide how secure it feels in the pocket.

Also known as: FFS, Free-Floating Slider, Floating Slider,
