A slider whose plates travel along a fixed rail, slot or pin, so the motion follows one path.
What it is
In a guided design, the moving parts are captured by a track, slot, pin or rail. The plate can only move in the direction the designer allows, usually straight back and forth between two end positions.
Why it matters
Guided sliders feel precise and repeatable, and they are easier to use one-handed without parts drifting. The trade-off is less freedom than a free-floating design, so the feel depends heavily on how well the track is machined.
Also known as: Guided Slider, Railed,
