What it is
A Damascus pattern is a decorative surface design that imitates the flowing, wavy lines of true Damascus steel. True Damascus gets its pattern from layers of different steels forged together and then etched, so the pattern runs through the material. A Damascus pattern, by contrast, is usually created on the surface by laser engraving, etching, printing or coating. The method depends on the maker.
