Chemically etched designs you can see and feel with your fingertips.

What it is

Acid etching creates a design by covering parts of a metal surface with a protective mask, then using an acid or chemical solution to eat away the exposed areas. The result can be logos, text, patterns or artwork. Etching also reveals the layered pattern in Damascus steel. Unlike acid washing, which treats the whole surface, etching is selective. The process depends on the maker.

How it feels in your EDC

Acid-etched designs often look softer and more organic than laser engraving, with a subtle, crafted character. Depending on depth, the design may feel completely smooth or slightly recessed under your fingertips. Etched areas can also be darkened or colored to add contrast, which makes the design stand out more clearly.

Care & aging

Shallow etching and any added darkening can fade slowly with heavy wear or abrasive polishing, especially on raised edges. Clean etched areas with a soft cloth and mild soap, and avoid scouring pads and polishing compounds. Reactive metals like Copper and Carbon Steel may also develop patina around the design over time.
