Built layer by layer for bold, complex designs that stay light.

What it is

3D printing, also called additive manufacturing, builds a part layer by layer from a digital model. Common methods melt plastic filament, cure liquid resin with light, or fuse metal powder with a laser. Metal printing can produce parts in materials such as Titanium and Stainless Steel. The method, material and resolution depend on the maker.

How it feels in your EDC

3D printing makes shapes that are hard or impossible to machine, such as hollow cores, lattices and organic curves. It is popular for prototypes, small batches, cases and custom parts. Plastic prints feel light, while metal prints can feel solid like machined parts. Surfaces may show fine layer lines unless the maker sands, blasts or polishes them.

Care & aging

Care depends on the printed material. Plastic and resin prints can scratch more easily and may soften or warp in high heat, so keep them out of hot cars and direct sun. Clean them with a soft cloth and mild soap, and avoid strong solvents. Metal prints are generally cared for like other parts in the same metal and finish.
