What it is
Carbon Fiber is a composite made from thin strands of carbon, woven or laid in layers and locked together with resin. Once cured, it becomes a rigid sheet or block that can be machined into scales, inlays, buttons and plates. Weave style, resin and layer count depend on the maker, so the look can range from classic twill checkers to marbled forged patterns.
How it feels in your EDC
Carbon Fiber is very light, often lighter than Aluminum, and stiff for its weight. It feels smooth and slightly warm in hand, never cold like metal. Its woven surface can catch the light with a shimmering, three-dimensional depth. Makers often pair it with Titanium or Stainless Steel to cut weight or add contrast.
Care & aging
Carbon Fiber does not rust or patina, but the resin surface can pick up fine scuffs or lose some gloss over time. Clean it with a soft cloth and mild soap, and avoid harsh solvents. A hard impact on an edge can chip or crack it, so avoid drops onto stone. Well-made pieces should have smoothly finished edges; avoid sanding or cutting it yourself, as the dust is an irritant.
