What it is
PC (polycarbonate) is a tough, transparent thermoplastic known for high impact resistance. It is used for safety glasses, protective covers and electronics housings. In EDC, it is often machined or molded into clear or tinted bodies, windows and covers, letting you see magnets, balls and other parts at work. The exact grade and tint depend on the brand.
How it feels in your EDC
Polycarbonate is light and feels smooth and warm in hand, never cold like metal. Its clarity lets a piece show off its mechanism, and tinted versions add color without hiding the parts inside. Compared with a metal version, a PC body is lighter and often sounds softer, so the overall feel depends on the full design.
Care & aging
Polycarbonate resists cracking well, but its surface is softer than glass and picks up fine scratches with daily carry, which can slowly reduce clarity. Clean it with a soft cloth and mild soap. Avoid solvents such as acetone and alcohol-heavy cleaners, which can cloud or crack the surface. Keep it away from keys and coins in your pocket.
