What it is
PEI (polyetherimide) is a high-performance engineering plastic known for strength, stiffness and heat resistance. It is used in aerospace, medical and electrical parts, and in EDC it is machined into bodies, buttons and accents. Natural PEI is often a translucent amber color, though other colors exist depending on the maker.
How it feels in your EDC
PEI is much lighter than metal and feels smooth and warm in hand. Its translucent amber tone can glow when light passes through it, giving a piece a distinctive look, especially next to dark metal parts. A PEI body changes the weight and balance compared with a metal version, so the overall feel depends on the full design.
Care & aging
PEI does not rust, but like most plastics it can pick up fine scratches and scuffs with daily carry, which may soften its clarity over time. Clean it with a soft cloth and mild soap. Avoid harsh solvents such as acetone and abrasive polishes, which can damage the surface. Keep it away from keys and coins in your pocket to keep it looking clear longer.
