A small tab on the blade that you press to flip a folder open.

A flipper is a small protrusion on the back of the blade that sticks out of the handle when the knife is closed. Pressing it with the index finger swings the blade open, often helped by smooth bearings.

When open, the flipper usually also acts as a guard in front of the fingers.
